Man oh MAN, this summer…Last year, I remember July 4th felt like 10000 degrees. I swam in the beautiful, e. coli infested beachwaters and recall the waves roaring so high that afternoon that the most fun thing you could do was stand in one place and try to beat them upwards. This year was another gorgeous day, albeit much less hot and the water much less inviting (too cold for me, still! and Clevelanders know what all the rain does to Edgewater….). There is video of Pierre swimming that I need to obtain and upload soon! The 4th of July is my favorite holiday, even though I have no excitement over this country and being patriotic, but I like seeing so many people enjoying public spaces. Someone last night asked what other event brings so many people outside at once. Nuffin’.
Wednesday was the first of Cleveland Museum of Art’s Ohio City Stages concert series. Amadou & Mariam, a husband-and-wife duo from Mali, performed and it.was.sick. Fantastic music, free, and right in my backyard. I saw dozens of people I knew and was once again reminded why I love living in the city, this city, this neighborhood.
And speaking of neighborhoods, my house, God willing, will close on July 15. Yes, in just ten short days, those keys will be mine and I can start the move + the 800 projects I have planned. I’ve been dong a fantastic job of ridding myself of valued belongings (like books and clothes and cute chachkies.. it’s hurting my heart) and boxing things up properly rather than utilizing my usual technique of throwing things haphazardly into boxes, or worse, giant trash bags. I am a mess.
I went to an estate sale today and found two wonderful dresses for $15 (!!!) each. Real beauties that need a little bit of love. I also bought Alex a gift of historically significant Cleveland newspapers and Life magazines:
So, one of these days I’ll post actual photos of my house when I think to take some – maybe tomorrow – and then I’ll graciously accept anyone’s help painting, moving, cleaning, nurturing, etc.
Obligatory shot of Pierre (+me and a photo of Levi, my new favorite pitbull, who is very shy and afraid of Pierre!!!).
